The Facts About a Liquid Collagen Supplement

That sounds a bit extreme, but, it is actually just misleading.  The claims are based on the bodyð€™s need for protein.  Collagens are proteins, but they are no better than any other protein supplement. 

Protein is needed by the body to build everything.  If you are not getting enough protein in your diet, 46-56 grams per day, then supplementation may be advisable.  A liquid collagen supplement may provide as much as 15 grams per day and only increases your caloric intake by about 48 calories. 

46-56 grams per day is just a rule of thumb.  Body builders suggest that one gram per pound of body weight is necessary to build muscle.  So, a person that wanted to build muscle might need there times the USDAð€™s recommended daily allowance.  The most important thing, from a nutritional standpoint, is to balance your intake of protein, calories, good fats and complex carbohydrates.

In other words, eat lean chicken, boiled eggs, Wild salmon and other fatty fish, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as legumes and whole grains, but try not to exceed your daily caloric requirement.  It can be hard to get all of the nutrients that you need every day, without supplementation. 

But the best supplements contain combinations of amino acids (which the body uses to make protein), vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other unique nutrients.  They are a better value for your money than a liquid collagen supplement.

Now, when we are talking specifically about the skinð€™s appearance, the most effective choice is a nourishing cream that is topically applied.  That way, the skinð€™s cells get what they need; amino acid complexes, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Creams containing collagens are not the best choice, because the proteins are long chains of amino acids that cannot be used by the skinð€™s cells.  Shorter chains of amino acids, commonly referred to as peptides, can be used by the skinð€™s cells to form more cells and stronger fibers.

There are some other facts that you might be interested in.  A liquid collagen supplement is mostly water.  The protein is added to the water, along with artificial flavors and preservatives.  In some cases other vitamins are added as well.

A liquefied nutritional supplement is never the best choice, unless a person simply cannot swallow a capsule, because the nutrients do not get to the small intestine, intact.  If it is stomach upset that you are worried about, enteric coatings prevent that problem.  In addition, the amount of nutrients present in a dose will vary, because of settling and inaccurate dosage measurements.
