It has been estimated that in her lifetime a woman ingests up o 4 pounds of lipstick, have you ever thought about on how much of that you share with your partner? Is your partner a ň€śpassive lipstick eaterň€ť and if so, what kind of lipstick are you sharing?Even though there is increasing awareness about the hazards of lipstick usage, it is clear that this fashion accessory is here to stay. Looking well groomed is an investment most women are willing to make, and a lipstick is a powerful accessory in this regard.
It is said, that nothing makes a woman feel more like ň€¦ than her favorite lipstick. A strong statement confirmed by Social scientists who found out, that changes in lip color indicates extended attraction. Lipsticks mimic that flush of attraction woman need and make them feel irresistible. Some believe that people instinctively prefer rosy lips since they are considered signs of good health. Whatever reason why people find tainted lips attractive, the fact is that this tube of color is the most commonly used cosmetic in the world today
But are they good for us? What happens when we apply and ingest lipstick? Are they tested on animals? If so, then how? These are some of the questions we must ask before buying and using this product.
If you must use lipstick, here are some things to make sure of
*Choose a lipstick with natural beeswax or plant wax instead of synthetic wax.
*Buy only lipsticks with disclosed ingredient list. Ask your retailer about the ingredients if not on the label
*Check online, there most often organic/natural brands list full ingredients for your safety and convenience
*As a rule of the thumb, remember that if a tube of lipstick has added perfume and flavor, it means added chemicals. (often found in lip-gloss and balmň€™s)
*Do not use a lipstick meant to last twelve hours since the long stay is chemically enhanced.
Do you know what Animals know?
Check whether the lipstick has been tested on animals. Animal Testing is often needlessly cruel. Animal rights activists point out that guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits are made to swallow lipstick to see whether it is safe or poisonous. Albino rats and rabbits have lipstick shoved into their eyes to see what it does to them.
I"ll use rabbits as an example. Rabbits don"t have tear ducts. Have you ever gotten soap in your eye? Chances are, it burns bad, and your eye starts to tear to flush it out. Unfortunatly, rabbits eyes don"t do the same. They will force the eye open and slather makeup on the eyeball and leave it sitting there until it will literally eat away at the eyeball. This causes intense pain (think back again to soap in your eye, only this time, imagine your held down and your tears wont wash the pain away) animals have been known to struggle so hard against the restraints from the pain that they"ve killed themselves by breaking their own necks.
Consider life next time when you buy a new lipstick - go natural/organic WITHOUT animal testing.
Last but not least Do it yourself if you got the time
Heat a heaping teaspoon of bees wax gently till it melts, and add about a 1/2 teaspoon of cream blush (to add color). Or you could add food color. If you want to have some flavor, just add any natural food essence of your choice. 2 drops Vitamin E will keep your lips smooth and nourished. To enhance blood circulation add some drops Rosemary Essential Oil. Enjoy experimenting with the gifts of nature!
